Australian trio Daste has just released their latest EP, Same As It Ever Was, and with it, the enigmatic track ‘Telephone (What’s Your Name?)’. They explain how it was this track that ended up laying the baseline for the whole EP: “The first track we wrote was ‘Telephone (What’s Your Name?)’, which felt very moody compared to our previous releases but also quite fresh and familiar at the same time. This ended up shaping the mood of the EP, taking the sound into a darker and more mature space”. The influence of jazz can be felt in every part of the arrangement, from the soft, persistent ride cymbal to the swirling guitar chords above.
